Following yesterday's Townsville School Sport Special Meeting it was decided to reschedule the 2020 Interschool Athletics Carnivals (Red Track) for the last week of term three (14 - 18 September). Please understand this is dependent on the COVID restrictions at the time. Due to the sheer numbers involved there is a realistic chance that the carnivals may not go ahead at all.
These dates will give schools something to work towards in relation to selection of their own teams. Some schools are planning to run events in age groups working to the current restrictions of 100 whilst others are waiting for the restrictions to lift enough to conduct a proper sports day. There is now plenty of time to run your carnivals. Realistically, you could have a carnival in the middle of next term and still have time to organise a school team.
There will be no further stages of representation after the proposed interschool carnivals as both the Northern Regional trials along with the State Championships have been cancelled. The main reason for holding the carnivals is simply to provide an opportunity for the students who have already missed out on so much so far this year. Of course it is up to individual school to decide whether they will compete or not.
If you have any further queries at this stage please let me know, otherwise I will keep you informed as more information comes to hand.
