Each sport is managed by a sub-committee. The sub-committee holds an annual general meeting (AGM) prior to the start of the relevant season where an executive is elected and district coaches and managers are appointed.
The athletics sub-committee manages cross country and track and field events. The inter-school cross country is held in Term 2 at Bicentennial Park, Queens Road, Hermit Park.
Inter-school athletics carnivals are held over 5 days in Term 3 at the Townsville Sports Reserve. These carnivals are commonly known as Red Track. Schools are sorted into divisions by their enrolment numbers. The 6 divisions are A, B, C, D, E and F schools.
